Understanding the 3-Step Forging Minigame

The Forge uses a unique manual forging minigame with three distinct steps: Heating, Casting, and Hammering. Each step requires precise timing and skill. The quality of your final item depends on how well you perform in all three steps.

• Step 1 - Heating: You must heat the metal to the optimal temperature. The timing window is narrow - too early or too late results in suboptimal quality.
• Step 2 - Casting: Pour the molten metal into the mold at the perfect moment. This step determines the item's base structure.
• Step 3 - Hammering: Strike the metal at the exact right time to shape and strengthen it. This final step can elevate Normal quality to Masterwork or even Legendary.

Success Rate Formula: Each step has a timing window. If you hit all three steps perfectly (within the "perfect" timing zone), you achieve Masterwork quality (20-30% stat boost). If you hit all three steps flawlessly with zero timing error, you have a chance for Legendary quality (maximum stats, extremely rare). Normal quality is achieved by completing all steps correctly but outside the perfect timing window.

Based on our extensive testing with 500+ forging attempts, here's the approximate success rate breakdown:

Pro Tip: Practice the minigame with common materials (Iron, Copper) before attempting rare ores. The timing mechanics are consistent across all items, so mastering the rhythm with cheap materials will improve your success rate with expensive ones. We recommend attempting at least 10 practice forges before using rare materials like Demonite or Luminite.

Material Efficiency & Cost Optimization

Understanding material costs is crucial for efficient gameplay. Here's the material hierarchy from cheapest to most expensive:

Cost Optimization Strategy: Always mine extra materials (20-30% more than calculated) to account for failed forging attempts. If you're aiming for Masterwork quality, plan for 3-4 attempts per item. This calculator shows the minimum requirements - add 30% buffer for safety.

Step 1: Select Your Item

Choose the item you want to forge from the dropdown menu. The calculator supports all major craftable items including weapons (Golden Sword, Mithril Blade, Demonite Axe, Colossal Sword) and tools (Iron Pickaxe). Each item shows its rarity tier to help you understand the material requirements.

Step 2: Set Quantity

Enter how many items you want to craft (1-100). The calculator will automatically multiply the material requirements. This is especially useful when planning to craft multiple items or when preparing materials for multiple attempts to achieve Masterwork quality.

Step 3: Review Material Requirements

The calculator displays three key pieces of information: (1) Required Ingots - the number of ingots needed for forging, (2) Required Ores - the total raw ores you need to mine (accounting for the 1:1 ore-to-ingot conversion), and (3) Mining Depth - the optimal depth range where you can find the required ore.

Step 4: Plan Your Mining Trip

Use the mining depth information with our Ore Depth Finder to plan your mining expedition. For example, if you need 10 Mithril Ingots for a Mithril Blade, you'll need to mine at 400-700m depth. Make sure you have the appropriate pickaxe (Arcane Pickaxe recommended for depths above 400m).

Step 5: Execute Your Plan

Once you have all materials, follow the 3-step forging process: (1) Mine the required ores at the specified depth, (2) Smelt ores into ingots at the furnace using Coal as fuel, (3) Forge your item at the anvil using the manual minigame. Aim for Masterwork quality by perfecting all three steps!
